About Wa-bi Sa-bi
The beauty of Japan and the beauty of renewal…
Wabi-sabi is a unique, traditional Japanese aesthetic.
Originally, wabi and sabi were two different things.
Wabi is an artistic expression for an “incomplete beauty.”
Sabi is the beauty you feel in quiet, deep, and rich ways.
Withered things and gorgeous things are together in the same world,
contrasting and working with each other to produce the beauty of wabi-sabi.
Rooms
Feel the calm and peace.
Corridor
From the corridor’s window, you can see our beautiful Japanese garden full of wabi-sabi. To enjoy the garden scenery, the corridor has chairs and tables. There are also curtains and Western-style toilets. The traditional Japanese architecture is fused with modern conveniences.
Japanese-style rooms
The two Japanese-style rooms have stunning, red lacquered walls that were favored by the Maeda Clan, the head of the Kaga Domain. The ceiling is a single piece in the traditional sukiya-zukuri style looking like a tea ceremony room. The transoms between the lintel and ceiling feature traditional Inami chokoku sculptures. You can rest and relax well in our Japanese space.
Study
Connected to the Japanese-style room is a small study. Open the shoji sliding window to view the beautiful Japanese garden. Calm your heart and look at the writings. Use this study to write postcards to your folks back home. A record of your memories of Japan.
Bath
When you open the Japanese-design fusuma sliding door, you will see a room with a bathtub. The bathtub is made of pottery made in Shigaraki (Shiga Prefecture), one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. It is one element of wabi-sabi for a relaxing effect created by longtime, traditional arts.
Garden
The Japanese garden takes you even deeper into the world of wabi-sabi. Listen to the waterfall and shishi-odoshi garden sounds in the quiet space. The garden reflects Japan’s changing of the seasons. The snowy garden scene in winter is very much like the Hokuriku Region. The pond in the middle has colorful koi fish, adding to the beauty and charm of the garden.
